alternator with tach dr.

a while back someone posted up about replacing the gen on a massey 135 with a alternator with tach dr. does anyone remeber where he ssaid that he had purchased thew new unit. I have a 68mdl 135 with z145 cont. gas engine and would like to change out the gen for and alt.

Welcome to Tractorbynet and greetings from Tennessee. Over a year ago I bought a 135 gas Z145 that ran great. The outside was a bit tired so I decided to refurbish it from end to end. As I went from one end to the other I thought I might go with an alternator upgrade. Did some checking and found one for sale on eBay. I can't swear to the accuracy compared to the original genny but it works and works well. I checked on eBay and found one just like I bought. In fact I believe it's the same seller.

Here's a picture of it mounted on my 135. I modified the bracket by hammering it flat. i used the genny's spacer with the genny's block bracket. Works great.

I almost went that route but just spent an hour getting my new regulator to work correctly by tweaking the springs and contact gap so both the cutout coil and field coil would work correctly.
