Talk about a way to make an already slow netbook downright intolerable. After days of unsuccessfully trying to find the program which was causing me problems and deleting everything which has downloaded in the last month; the "geek gods" must have heard me cursing. After yet another search crashed, links to the solution suddenly appeared in my search engine. How To Remove search conduit course

Now I just need to decide if this is a true solution or something worse...

I haven't knowingly downloaded a program in over 2 years; this is why I don't appreciate "Live Update" making changes to my computer without my permission or knowledge. (Especially when I'm at a public WiFi spot.)

PS; apparently one of the things this program does is scramble the spelling when you try to spell "Inadvertently"... and change one "e' to an "a" ;)

Never heard of it.

I'd say the remove "course" is probably the pay-off part of the extortion.

Go to bleepingcomputer.com and follow the courses of action suggested there. It has saved my computers a few times.

Don't feel bad, I've seen it A LOT on our network, and it is a pain. My usual go-to tool is Malware Bytes.

I managed to get a conduit malware one time when I didn't pay good attention to an installer for a "free" utility software. The fine print in the installation gave an option to not install the "extras", but I missed it. I think I got rid of either with Malwarebytes or Spybot.

Thanks for all of the help. I felt the same as what Dave posted, which is why I asked before doing anything. It turns out that I did NOT have this particular issue. Rather a search engine which I accidently downloaded almost 2 years ago (thinking it was the service manual for my Knipco space heater) had somehow reactivated... I successfully got rid of it this time.

Yeah!! Those two will get rid of almost anything.
