I just got back from Alaska and went I cranked up TBN I found about 4 new closed threads. Naturally, I read all of them first to find out why they were closed. Am I the only one whose curiosity is aroused when I spot closed threads and have to read them first?

I hope to find out that I'm normal and that this thread doesn't get closed too quick. :D

I do. Often they are the threads that I stay away from at the get go, or I bail out on them early. Once closed I have peek to see what the final straw was. The moderators do a great job of pruning them so it leaves much to the imagination. ;)

I definitely read them. Heck, im usually have a post or two in them.:D

I do have to wonder about the mods sometimes. Some are lacking a sense of humour (see recent funny country sayings thread). Given that the majority of posters on here are men, i think we can deal with a little "dirty" expressions or "heated" discussions now and then.

If a post offends, then remove that post. Killing a thread that has a good discussion going on is a insult to the other posters IMHO.

I read them too. Sometimes I'm part of the problem and I'm expecting it to happen, other times I've already lost interest in it and only get curious about it when it gets closed.

I appreciate the efforts of the moderators and the job they do. Especially when I've read other forums and seen how abusive they are towards each other. I wonder if those guys think they are funny? or just so arogant that they are unable to realize how offensive they are to others who might be just asking a question or sharing an opinion.

I'm the same way. If I see that padlock attached to a thread I just gotta look. Kind of like a rubber necker at an accident scene.
In some cases I agree with Scooby074, in as much as it seems that some are closed down a little prematurely. I would have to say though that a great majority of those that are closed down have it coming. A discussion is one thing, but when the namecalling starts it can get a little ridiculous. Heck, most of the time you can see it coming in the first few posts, or even by the title.
By the way, how was Alaska. I've always wanted to visit there.

The forum rules are really pretty clear regarding being family friendly and no jokes. There are other forum rules I don't agree with, but...it's not my forum. So if one doesn't like the rules, one is perfectly free to go start one's own online forum. The thread you reference had a post that referenced an exceedingly lewd movie scene. I suggested it was not appropriate for a family friendly forum (and whether we like it or not, the OWNERS have decided this is to be a family friendly forum) and the poster sarcastically suggested I not let my family read it. What that movie scene involved may pass for humor in your world, but not in mine. And it certainly isn't family friendly under any definition of that I've ever heard.

If you think you're being insulted by having a thread closed, again, go start your own forum. I fail to understand why so many people think it should be their prerogative to tell the owners of this forum how it should be operated. Would these same people allow others to dictate to them how to use their personal property?

BTW, I did not report the thread to the moderators, so at least one other person thought it was out of line too. I figure they'll usually catch up with those threads that get out of line...and they usually do.

I have been involved in some closed threads. Reading what is left after it is edited, does not necessarily tell the of the story of what happened.

There are some people here you are not allowed to have a disagreement with.

Right you are. Some people get.... "This thread is political......... closed". Certain others get "Aww come on boys lets not make this so political".

LMTC: the thread in question and "purdy mouth" post wasnt out of line. In fact its still there last time i looked. Youd have to have a little more knowledge than a typical child to catch the reference.

As far as the typical "dont like it...start your own" response... its played out... Yes i know were supposed to abide by the rules, but sometimes they come across as heavy handed. I mean you can only discuss the finer points of "which brush cutter should i buy?" so much.

A offtopic section, would go along way to eliminate the frustrations and allow people to joke around (and heavin forbid, discuss politics) a bit. That way if you dont like it you could avoid it
