I am seriously considering a ZD326 mower. I just had a 18hp Briggs Vanguard blow up at 800hrs on a Woods mowing machine. Got a buddy with a blown Koler on a 700hr machine. This is why I am looking at diesel and think the transmission on a ZD might be a bit tougher than the other main brands of Z row mowers. Do any of yall have experience with the durability of a ZD326???? Now to the dealer question. I was at a kubota dealer other day and I was trying to ask about a ZD326 he had there in showroom. I ask if I could drive it, He said NO, it was new and unless I bought it I, I could not try it. WOW. haha now i was ticked and ask another question, IF I bought it and took it home and it stopped next day what about the warranty and service. He said HIS service started at his door! I as to clarify if I was understanding right and yes I was. It would be MY responsibility to get it to his door, then he would precede with warranty work. WOW
Are all kubota dealers like this one???????

I was considering the Kubota Zero turn mower, but the gas model. I read quite a few stories about them over at www.lawnsite.com and how they have had some issues with the transmissions failing on them. I asked the dealer about it and he sent me back to the mechanic who just happened to be working on one with a blown transmission. The mechanic told me that the transmissions are fine, but that they can't handle towing anything. He also pointed out that there was a two inch ball on the back of the mower and that's what he said caused the problems. He didn't know how much weight was pulled behind the mower, just that it's not supposed to pull anything.

After looking at all the mowers in my area, I went with Scag.

Good luck,
Eddie

No! I had a problem shortly after delivery and they came and got it, made the adjustments and brought it back with no charge. They even brought my trade back so I'd have something to use in the meantime.

Sounds reasonable to me.

No, not all Kubota dealers are like that. We do have one local Kubota/Massey/others dealer whose sales people are morons, but there are six other dealers around that are great to work with (I've bought from four of them).

And yes, the dealer we bought our ZD323 let me try out of couple of models mowing his grass :) Initially we were thinking toward a gas engine, but after hearing the diesel, that's the way we went (quieter).

I too read about the transmission issues on other forums. But supposedly 1) that was fixed a couple of years ago and 2) generally affected mowers that were being used to tow things. Like Eddie said, they are more reliable without the hitch ball ;)

I would assume that the written warranty states basically the same thing for the mowers as it does for the tractors and that is that the warranty does NOT

I would assume that the written warranty states basically the same thing for the mowers as it does for the tractors and that is that the warranty does NOT pay for pick up and delivery. In other words, yes, it's the customer's responsibility to get it to and from the dealer's place of business. So Kubota does not pay for that. However, some dealers do it themselves if you're not too far from the dealership.

Rude and insulting gets me out of there, regardless.

Each to their own. Sound reasonable?

Skag for the ZTR. Diesel or Kawasaki gas engine with the DFI. Either engine will serve you very well.

For my dealer, it's a mix. They delivered for free, and they do a mid-winter maintenance special where they will pick up and deliver for free.

-But- when I called to make a appointment for the 50 hour service, I was informed that for that the pickup and delivery were chargeable, and since I live only about 16 miles from the dealership, that $75 would probably be the charge for pickup and delivery. I have a trailer that I bought and have transported my tractor on that several times, so I declined their pickup and delivery and paid myself $75 to get it there and then bring it back.

I think allot of it is in the delivery. My dealer guys are really nice, and they've already cut me some breaks, so when we chat about these things, it's with a smile and a handshake. I think you might have a dealer rep that just doesn't know how to express such things in a kinder, gentler fashion (Bush speak).

it's not always what you say but how you say it that produces the desired result-now if I were going to spend thousands on something and they wouldn't let me try a like model of it then I'd be gone and stay gone, To many good products out there. [ green, blue, red to name a few. you need to lose these guys and tell all your friends. Its a competative world out there and the good guys win.
