Ammo shortage

Hey does anyone have the slightest Idea as too the cause of the National Ammunition shortage?

I went to buy some 44 Mag and every store within 20 miles of Augusta Ga is out. 9mm only the Ball target usage was to be found. I actually wanted the Latest Hornandy versions. But No such luck.

Don't even Mention 308 Mag Thank God I have some for next hunting season.

Any Feed Back as I vent would be appreciated.

From what I can come up with - There was a scare that the Democrats were going to tighten the screws on gun control and ppl started hoarding. then the mfg couldnt keep up with demand... this caused the prices to increase, and then also materials costs went up as well..

Then ppl (like me) started stocking up at the current prices thinking the price will just get higher down the road..

On some calibers (ie .380 ACP) it seems the mfg only produce it 1x per year and they just didnt make enough in their last run..

It seems a little better now- but prices are terrible.. Prices seem to have gone up 2x

For some calibers (ie .380) is outragously expensive compared to 9mm Luger ($20/50 vs $10/50..

Don't want to get political 'cause that will make the thread disappear, but- I've noticed the supplies and prices have eased up a lot recently. However if a certain nominee gets confirmed I expect it may set off a buying panic again

You get what you vote for. luckily I have have a lot of ammo in many calibers safely tucked away. The worst is YET to come looking at whats running our Nation.

I've been buying a box or two of .308 and .223 every week, if I can find it. I gave up on finding 9mm target ammo, I'm at the last 100 rounds of my reloads. Finding .380 is out of the question. I haven't seen any for over a year.

didn't think anyone owned a 380 until all the ammo was gone over night.I would love to buy some for $20.00,looked at some 357 today when I was in town,$35.00.

Why is it, there's never a shortage in the "poor" countries. Especially if it's so expensive?

We are experiencing a shortage of components too, with primers especially difficult to get at the moment. Winchester and Remington primers won't be available here for something like 6 months, there are some CCI primers, and Magtech available though.

All the old stocks of PMC primers are now well and truly sold out.

Lucky for me I bought up big before any shortages

Dude, this happened about two days after the election. Same thing happened when clinton got elected, and again when the assault weapons ban happened.

Everybody who doesn't "normally" hoard ammo, is now hoarding, on the threat of the Democrats taxing ammo heavily. No real threat as of yet, just a bunch of internet rumors.

Which 308 magnum do you use? or are you talking normal .308?

JohnK I don't see how the worst is yet to come since all the economic mess and silly bailouts were orchestrated before the current pres and congress, they had no choice but to go with the flow. Same as how Bush wasn't responsible for 9/11, you can't have it both ways. Frankly I'm glad there's fresh ideas in the white house. Besides, I bought all the guns and ammo I need years ago, I could care less that the rest of ya's got caught with your pants down.
