amps and volts and PF's

It is my understanding that amps x volts = watts. This figure can then be multiplied by a PF or "power factor" to assess a more "real load". My question is how do they assign a PF value? Also, anyone know the wattage usage of a 1/20 hp single phase 220 volt motor at run speed?

1 horsepower is equal to 745.699872 watts.

so divide that by 20 looks like it would be about 37 watts, most likely closer to 45 to 50 watt in real life, (there is heat and friction losses) thus in real life the wattage is usually a little higher than 746 watts per horse power, in looking up some 1/20 Hp motors it looks like the wattage may be much more than my estimate.

I would think one should look up the name plate if there is some thing special one needs with it, before wiring it,
