I thought that I would follow up on the amrox metal bandsaw, I never bought the saw. When I went to see it I looked at it closely and found that it was made in Tiawan not the USA. Like the ad said it was made in 1982 and for the saw it looked in pretty good shape for that old of a model of saw. He said that it was industrial but it looked more like the small one that I believe harbor freight sells. It seemed to be light weight and didn't have the capacity of my power hacksaws. But all was not lost on the way I stopped at a yard sail and they had a manual 358A miter saw. It is in very good shape, The frame of the miter box part is solid steel no aluminum in it whatsoever, it has a 28 inch back saw [Diston made for Stanley]that is in very good shape and is very sharp. The wood table part of it has very shallow cut marks one at 90 and one at 45 degree. I only gave $20 for it and in my research on the web I found that the 358 was made from about 1906 to 1926. It appears to be complete with the clamps to do crown molding but it only has one stop bar on it[I don't know if it came with 2 or not].
In studying the model # I only found 358 and not 358A so I don't know if they just left the A off or if the A has any significance. If anyone knows anything about this old vintage saw model I would be interested to know. While I know it isn't as fast as my electric miter saw but I have a fondness for old tools especially if they are in good original condition but have signs that they have been used by a skillful craftsman.
