Anybody run Amsoil Dominator in chainsaws? I used to / usually run the factory Husky XP 50:1 but was sold some Dominator because:

1. I no longer shop at my local Husky dealer, but the Stihl dealer only has Stihl Dino oil (the synthetic isnt available in Canada)
2. I wanted to try some synthetics to see if I could get the smell down and the performance up.

After about 1/2 a tank. it seems the saw is running cleaner and seems to rev faster. Could be psychosomatic, but it feels better to me. Its an 562xp. Smell is definitely better too

They I got looking on Arborist site, where many say dont run it! but run the Sabre Professional  There are comments that the Dominator takes out bottom ends..

"i can speak with authortiy on this subject as I build high performance 2 stroke engines for atvs sleds and dirtbikes my company is called flotek performance ,over the years i have seen first hand the damage amsoil (mostly dominator)does (esp, crank bearings ),dont kid yourself by reading the back of a bottle ,more oil always ~equals less friction(a 2stroke losses 30% of its potential power by friction) more oil makes more power as well as extends relibility the best premix oil i have found is klotz supertechnaplate at 32-1 on a dyno and on the track it will make the most power and contains castor which offers superior protection at high rpms "

Get on the phone with Amsoil ASAP and they say that yes, the Sabre is designed for chainsaws, but the Dominator is almost just as good, just run it at 50:1 (which Id do anyways). It should be as good or better than the XP oil I was running, they both are TC rated oils, not that TC is the worlds best rating..

Even after talking to the tech rep at Amsoil, Im still a little concerned by the comments on AS, but dont know how much weight to put on them.

Any good experiences running Dominator? Any Horror stories?

i am on my second quart of dominator. A member on AS and another forum i am on is a dealer. He has run some in his saws and recomended it to me. I also have read what you did and also some talking about it let thier outboards rust inside!!!

I have had no problems.

I run at 32:1 in everything from my stihl 011,390,650 to the husky 445,372xp, chinese earthquake saws which are redmax copies and anything else i have that i forgot. I also run it in my weedeaters which is a echo and a cheapie mtd from HD. I will probably try lucas semi syn next as many on AS say its as good as any full syn and Mdavlee even uses it milling where a cut can be a whole tannk of fuel.

Many say the same thing that the technaplate is good, also belray h1r is good but pricy and some say at higher concentrations it cant flow as well through the jets and you need to richen them up. I had not noticed that at 32:1 myself. and about 3 outher race oils i cant remember are favorits onthe saw sites.

I run the Saber stuff. I know Amsoil says you can run it at 100:1 ratio but I still mix mine at 50:1. I run it in all the two stroke stuff I own.

Hiya,

I've run Amsoil Saber at 100-1 before it was called Saber, in every 2 stroke I have had since 1977. That includes trimmers, saws, snowthrowers and motocross bikes from 125cc to open class big bores with similar results, every one of them ran stronger and had less wear with Amsoil than any other 2 stroke oil I tried.

My example: The first engine I tried it in was a original "weedwacker", the ones with the big magnesium housing, I beat the tar out of that thing, gave it to my buddy, he used it for a few years, he gave it to my other buddy and the shaft finally fell apart but the engine went from 1977 until 2000 on the same piston/ring running Saber at 100 to 1.

no way i would run at 100:1. they say it can but i wouldnt. Many of the pro saw builders wont even warrenty thier work if you run a mix leaner than 40:1 with 32:1 being optimal.

I've always used stihl mix in my stihl products. Although I had some extra 4-wheeler fuel one time and ran it in my blower, but didn't really notice the difference. I can say I am an avid member on a 4-wheeler site, and all the guys there will tell you to mix 32:1 no matter what the bottle says. When running a 2 stroke at WOT, as most tools are, there is not much time for the oil to come out of suspension.

The Stihl oil that is fully synthetic is a good product, i would buy the oil with the saw to get the longer warrenty they offer. But as many say on AS and even a stihl tec on one forum i am own many run other oils as there are many oils that are better and cheaper in the long run. Stihl comes in those convienient bottles that let you mix 50:1 with a certain amout per gallon. If you want 40:1 just put .8 gallons for every gallon that it calls for to make 50:1. So in other words if you have a 2.5 gallon bottle that would mix 2.5 gallons @50:1 just put 2 gallons of gas with that same bottle and your at 40:1

Even at 32:1 if your running and tuned right with good syn oil you will have no buildup other than a thin oil film (which is what you want) no carbon your plugs are not black and fouled or anything. Who ever tells you that has not run anything that is properly tuned. There probably running or have run an old breaker type ignition saw poorly tuned with a clogged air filter that is so rich it can turn the right rpms, with sae 30 or oldancient dino type two stroke oil.

I have seen the insides of many saws running two stroke oils at 32:1 and 40:1 and none had carbon anywhere. I peek in at my saws and pull my plugs and no carbon on them anywhere.

And tbrooks, most of the big saw guys and builders run two stroke race oils in thier saws. Pretty much no one runs the saw brand oil. Not cause its bad...but because there are better and cheaper alternatives out there. So of course you saw ran fine on your two stroke ATV mix...its the same thing. Like i said i run dominator two stroke oil in mine. It can be used in ATvs, or boats or karts. But like i said most are running oils that the ATV or dirt bike guys run.

I run Dominator by the gallon. 5 chain saws from a 346 all the way through a 390, all modded including a 562. They get ran hard. All my dirtbikes, trimmers, blowers and anything else except the sled burn it. It runs clean and I find very little wear when the bikes/saws get new pistons and rings. And yes everything is measured with Mics. Very little to no measurable wear. As far as the "authority" on Arborsite? I have never heard of Flotech performance. I have been doing the 2 stroke thing for 40+ years. CJ
