Any thoughts on API rated VS non API oils
As it may apply to warranty issues.

I don't worry about much of it. Like the dexos1 thing regarding GM vehicles. None of my GM vehicles have ever seen a dexos1 "approved" oil in them since the factory fill was drained. API ratings, I view the same way. If an oil claims to meet the spec, then I don't give it a lot more thought. I have owned both personal and commercial vehicles for better part of 45 years, and I have never seen or heard first hand of any dealer or OEM even asking what oil someone was using, let alone actually checking it. Any major name brand is going to meet the spec it claims to meet, and probably will be more than up to the task of protecting any current made engine.
