I was at an auction Saturday and bought an old, rusty three point bale spear. I don't have any particular need for a bale spear. I just bid five dollars to get things started after no one even opened the bidding mainly for the steel already set up for a three point. No one else bid so I bought it . I don't see any problem cutting off the three large 'spears' and having a good starting point for a three point project. I'd thought of adding a receiver tube with some gussetting for an insert and ball for moving a trailer around but I wanted to ask what ideas anyone had.

I remember seeing something here on TBN that someone had build a while ago and thinking "If could only weld, I'd build something like that." Well, I acquired the welding skill but lost the idea. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I think it combined the trailer hitch idea with something else. I just don't remember what it was now. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So, can anyone give me some ideas here on anything besides a trailer mover (or for something in combination with a trailer mover)? Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Gary, if I had that, I'd sell it, and then buy a bunch of steel with the money, and build whatever I wanted with the steel. That's the nice part of knowing how to weld.
There are doubtless a lot of guys who can't weld and want a bail spear at least $50- worth.

There's a thought. Thanks.

I'd still like to see if anyone can help me with either ideas or recollections of what I might build with a trailer mover. As I said, someone built something I really liked but I'll be darned if I can find it or even remember it now. This middle age memory (or lack thereof) stuff is no fun. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Gary, If it was mine, I would convert it to a pallet mover! I need to get one before the fall to move the firewood that I haven't split or stacked yet. I have about 20 face cords to do, and think I will be stacking them on pallets. Will be easy to move once I make or buy a set of forks for the 3pt.

Gary, there was a thread about a trailer mover/boom pole that sells on eBay. It had some square stock set at an angle to accept a boom pole. There were trailor balls set low, and a gooseneck ball up top.

You can buy exactly what you are looking for. They make bale forks that already have a hitch built into them. I will try and get you a picture of mine at home. You can see if you want to try and convert yours to the one like mine. Those bale spears are nice. They aren't hard to sell for sure.

Trailer Mover, how about this one Gary? It would give you a lot of welding practice, and is set up to move any type of trailer withot the need to change hitching devices. Also has 2 boxes for chains and tools, and provides a rear bumper and additional rear weight.

Sounds like the makings for a new TV series to me...

"Tractor Wars" or maybe "Dueling Tractors."

Heck, people are spending thousands of $$ to build a machine to see who can fling a pumpkin the farthest!!

Here is another example of what I am using my 3-point receiver hitch for. I had another receiver built for my 1 bottom plow which is in the following message.

I can also put my 2" receiver carrier (the kind you typically see hanging on the back of SUV's/Jeeps for a little extra cargo space) into it if I want to carry items around in addition to my FEL. I figure with this I can adapt most anything I want to haul using the 2" receiver as an easy adapter.

My receiver I am using for the plow also doubles as one for my garden trailer as it will hook onto it easier than the draw bar if I want to.

As I am still new to having a 3-pt hitch and my new tractor, I am sure I will come up with other uses as time goes by especially reading this forum.
