That was my guess.
We get people sending pictures or bringing plants into the extension office all the time. Unless we know right away, it can take hours to figure out what a plant is. Need a DNA database.

That looks a lot like what I was told is Gopher Purge. If it is,it really spreads when left alone.As far as I can tell it has no effect what so ever on gophers.I first ran into it at a nursery and paid $10 each for 2 plants because the nursery owner said they would keep gophers away from the garden. It doesn't.

As a side note - I'm finding, picturing & identifying all the wildflowers on my property. I've found 92 and I know, depending upon the year, that there are some 124. Some grow & bloom only infrequently. I have one right now that has become a real bear to identify and I know I will spend hours looking thru the books.

I would call it a "weed" and eradicate it. I don't need to know a species name to know that it will be a nuisance if allowed to grow and reproduce.

Does look like a young milkweed except milkweed does not have that many leaves. Definitely looks like the Gopher Purge that was mentioned although I had not heard of that before.

All parts of the plant, including the seeds and roots are poisonous. Handling may cause skin irritation as the plant produces latex. While poisonous to humans and most livestock, goats sometimes eat it and are immune to the toxin. However, the toxin can be passed through the goat's milk.
It will be going away today.
