I'm getting a 18'Wx26'L metal carport installed in a few weeks. They normally anchor them with 1/2" dia x 3' long rebar anchors. I think they put 4 on each side. Since I'm planning on moving it next summer, I'm considering not having them anchor it with the rebar and using sandbags to hold it in place. Will this work? If so, how many 50lb sandbags would I need?

Another option is to have them anchor it with the rebar, then pull them out when I move it. My tractor's 3pt hitch is rated to lift 1600lbs 2' aft of the hitch, so it seems like it would have enough strength to pull them out. Has anyone tried something like this?

Maybe consider installing it now with the rebars, then just cutting them off and abandoning them when it's time to move it.
It will look much better than a number of sandbags stacked around the base of the posts - they will take up a lot of room too.
#4 (1/2") rebar runs something like $2.50 per 20'.

Chevdog - Yeah, that might work out OK too. Rebar seems to be pretty cheap. I plan to pour concrete over the whole area someday (when I build a pole barn there), so would the rebar under there cause any problems with the concrete?

Not at all - after you cut or grind off the rebar and get the carport moved, just drive the remaining pieces of rebar into the ground a bit so you don't trip over them. When you pour concrete later, chances are you will add some amount of fill to level out the area, so you'll never know the difference!

"just drive the remaining pieces of rebar into the ground a bit"

That sounds like a good plan! I do plan to add a couple inches of gravel before I pour the concrete, so I would think that would do it. Thanks!
