The time has come to make the 1610D a little safer on the hills. There have been a few threads on this, and I wanted to consolidate some of the info here and consider my options.

First, I need to match my front/rear axle ratio. The stock tires are 8.3-22 and 5-14. Data from Firestone says this is 112 in. and 72 in. rolling circumference respectively. RC ratio is therefore 1.56. I don't know what % lead this is compared to the actual axle ratio (does anyone know for sure what the mechanical ratio is?) but I should be safe staying close to that.

Hoye obviously has their renowned turf kit. This involves 315/75R16 truck tires and 23x10.50-12 lawn/garden tires (OD=35,23) on 8.5x16 and 7x12 rims. Getting off-brands for the tires makes them fairly cheap, just under $500 + rims.

Rictchieb has done a nice conversion to 12.4-16 and 23x8.50-12 tires (OD=37.6,23.3) on 10x16 and 7x12 Hoye rims. His are Tru Power tires, and these have gotten rare in this size and the price has increased accordingly. Around $800 + rims.

Fortunately those same rims can also support identically sized Trac Chief R4 tires (OD=37.2,22.6; RC=108,69) at less cost, and I prefer the R4 anyway. Around $600 + rims.

On custom rims I could probably do 31x15.50-15 and 20x10.00-10 tires, which would be significantly lower and is just right on the ratio. Similar to a 187D setup, although I wonder if on this tractor lowering this much would tilt the frame backwards.

Any other combinations I am missing for low and wide? I've heard of some folks using commonly available JD/Kubota sizes with adapters or welded centers. That's definitely on the table as I have a mill at my disposal and can make adapter rings, but so far I haven't seen any front/rear combos near the magic 1.56 ratio.

EDIT: shoutout to Stefan for his conversion. Not going to that extreme, but it's magical nonetheless.

Look up the thread by JTullis. I can't remember the ins and out of it but he basically made up his own turf kit from truck tires and rims I think he ordered from Hoye. But if you can custom mill centers you might be able to pick up some junk rims or car rims and make them fit your tractor for less cost.

I will text JT and tell him to check out your post and link his thread. And give you a summary.

Clemsonfor did text me over the weekend, but I was out of town. I can do my best to help you with this. I did put a turf tire kit on my 155d, I used the wheels from Hoye and bought my own truck/car tires for match the ratio that I needed. Let me look into the ratio you need for your 1610 and see what I can come up with. You might even be able to use a set of wheels you have laying around depending on the bolt pattern. What is going to be your purpose for going from R1 tires to turf? What type of terrain will you be on? Normal LT truck tires on the rear and car tires on the front have served me well with my applications, however that might be different for you. Let me know and we can discuss further options.

It's for stability and safety on hilly land while using the loader. Mostly grass, a little mud and forest. The ratio I need is 1.56 - I have a few options in that ratio penned out, but I want to survey the accumulated vast knowledge here and see if I missed anything as I'm definitely a Yanmar neophyte
