Hi, I've got a 254 pto clutch that won't stop the PTO so it grinds. I'll apologize in advance for the long post but I've tried quite a bit already... Last summer I had to do the bell housing gasket replacement. That went well and put everything back together and all worked with no issues. Over the winter, PTO started to grind when engaging and thought it was probably due to clutch wearing in after being taken off for bell housing fix and kicked myself for not replacing clutch at the same time as that. Read up on clutch adjustment procedure and tried that no luck so ordered full replacement clutch pack and PTO disk. Split tractor and installed new clutch with pto friction disk pointed the right way and adjusted gaps to specs, 2.5 mm for lever at throw out bearing and 1.2 mm for PTO adjustment nut. Started tractor and same issue with new clutch. Split tractor again and verified roll pins in the clutch pedal and the yoke are all ok, no slippage and a wire passes cleanly through each. Performed various adjustments with the stop bolt and adjustment rod using information on the many posts on here (all great information and very helpful). I've been able to make it better but there is still a small grind when engaging the PTO. Anything else I may have overlooked?
The one thing I would like to confirm is the release lever (part #15 in my diagram) to the throw out bearing (TOB). I've made the gap 2.5 mm as per spec, but the arm (all 3 actually) has some "slop" in it, meaning that when adjusting to the TOB I push the arm towards the front of the tractor so all the slop is out and then make the gap from there. The old clutch that I took off has this as well and based on how this is put together it seems like it would be normal but wanted to verify with others who have more experience.
Thanks in advance for any help.
