Those are pretty much standard fare for Europeans. He has cement pavers that interlock. Then further out they are cement panels with an open grid. There are various styles, colors, and designs for these pavers. Basically they are hand laid over a bed of dry sand/cement (cement being optional), then dry sand is broomed on the top to fill the gaps between the individual blocks and thereby locking it all together. Here is a sample of some of what is available. It is very labor intensive, but I have seen Mall parking lots done in this manner.

Some folks grow grass in the squares which eventually cover over the interlocking pavers but are still there to allow you to drive your vehicle across without killing the roots or compacting the soil. Very popular around industrial sites and some high end private gardens.

...and used a lot where emergency services need to be able to cross terrain eg around industrial buildings.

Once the grass grows it looks +- as a lawn but no ruts or sinking when driving.

I choose those as a full driveway as full pavement would just disturb the garden too much. 2 stripes of pavement to drive on were also not an option as wheel distance variation between eg the horsetrailer and the tractor would ask for 70cm wide leaving 30cm in between...

Plastic variants are now also offered but they are not truckload resistant.
