I am going to have a brake controller installed in my '08 Titan. I have read most of the threads on controllers. I don't trailer that far or that often. I don't need a MaxBrake. I am thinking about the Prodigy P2. However, the nearest trailer dealer sells the Tekonsha Primus. It appears to be a notch under the Prodigy. Has anyone used this model? Any praise or complaints?

Chris - Where did you install the controller on your '08 Titan?

First off, Stevie Wonder could install a brake controller in a Titan, don't pay to have it done. Go to R&P Carriages and get a P3 and the Nissan wiring harness. It's a 15 minute job for a first timer. I could install it in under 5.

I installed it under the dash on the drivers side far right. I used factory screws so no holes to drill.

My 08 is a 4x4 Off Road with a locker and the Big Tow Package. Is this ow yours is set up?

The Primus is a pretty good controller for the money. I use it with a small travel trailer. It has an accelerometer for proportional braking, 3 stages of boost and displays braking voltage as well as a connection fault signal. Lifetime guarantee. I'm happy, but YMMV.

I have one of the Primus controllers and use it on my F250. It suites my needs and I use it for a 14K lb. trailer. I got a chord that plugged into my existing harness. It was very easy to install.

Chris,
Thanks. I don't know what tow package I have; I bought it used. It had the hitch and seven lug plug already installed. It is not 4X4. It is the extended cab not true 4 door. I don't know what the "locker" is. I took a quick look under the dash and didn't see any factory screws to use. Also, things seemed very tight on the drivers side. I will probably give R&P a call.

Locker is a locking diff. Only available on a 4x4 so you do not have that.

What mirrors do you have? Mine has big mirrors like a F-350. If you have them 99% of the time you have the big tow package. If it has smaller mirrors like a car or suv then you dont have the Big Tow Package.

In a nutshell the standard tow package can tow about 7,500# The Big Tow Package can tow about 9,500# because it has a larger radiator, tranny cooler, lower gearing, heavier springs, ect.

I will take a pick of my controller tomorrow to show you where I mounted it.

Chris,
Thanks for the pic. If I visualized it correctly, your controller is in line with the accelerator pedal. I have a plug (computer plug??) in that position. You seem to have a console over your transmission hump. Mine is open and carpet covered. On the dash at the floor position over the transmission, there is a folding dual cup holder. I can live without the cup holder and may be able to use that cavity for a controller. I will take a pic and try to post it. I have never figured out how to post a pic so I may try to PM you with it.
Also, does the controller restrict your leg movement on and off the accelerator pedal? Can you remove the unit when not towing.
Thanks. You have been a deep well of knowledge on this forum. I owe you a beer or two the next time you are in the New Orleans area.

Norm, that computer plug is the OBD2 port. I can remove my controller in 2 minutes if I need to get to it. Its used to diagnose the trucks systems if trouble exist which should never be the case seeing its a Nissan.:D:thumbsup:

Yes, I have the top of the line model (LE) with the center shift and bucket seats so that is why there is a center counsel. It does not interfere with my leg in any way.
