Someone made a comment a while back about bizarre things that tend to happen when Herr Luginbuhl and I get together. This time he came in to show off his new topdress spreader, and while he was here, he aerated and topdresed part of my lawn. He would have topdressed more, but I got the 1845 thoroughly stuck in a wet compost pit. The 425 wouldn't get it out, and my pickup wouldn't move itself in the slick stuff, let alone pull. After breaking one rope, we used several lengths of chain and destroyed a tow strap running it through an offset snatch block and got the 1845 back up on the road with Hans's diesel Dodge truck.
I thought I'd post this before he gets a chance to - and before he gets to say he wanted me to take pictures, but I wasn't really in the mood at the time to chronicle my incompetence.
In case anyone wonders, you can, in fact, get a PT stuck - and if it's in a pit full of horse manure, some people find it entertaining. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'm not going to name names, but the laughter had a Swiss accent.

Naw. Can't be done. I tried, and tried, and it still pried itself out. Tried on many occassions. Heck I even had to pull my neighbors FWD Tacoma out of my swamp after he'd worried at it for two months then gave up. Never spun a wheel on soft sod - and he didn't even start his engine to help!

Oh, that's right, you have turfs on. Guess I'll stick with the bars after all.

We don't need no steenkin' horses up here to get in the doodoo,

Now, that would have been a sight to see.
Glad you got everything worked out, how about the smell?

Paul: if you ever decide to get in the compost business, use of human sludge, chicken manure, cow manure or hog manure will get you sued by your neighbors even if they aren't close neighbors. Comparatively, horse manure has some smell when fresh, but doesn't have much odor at all after composting. This stuff was over a year old, so the odor was psychological rather than olfactory.

My dad would get the kubota L35 stuck all the time in thick clay and mud but he could always get it out by using the bucket to inch his way out. Clay down here is plentyful and it stinks.

As a very important side-note, I understand (although I don't know from experience) that dogs find horse poop to be quite a delicacy. So, if your mutt hangs with any horses, beware the sloppy kiss! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Dave: 'fraid dogs' interest in horse manure isn't news to anyone who has horses.
Not all dogs, but enough. And some like to roll in it - only fresh smelly manure, of course. Old stuff's no fun.
