Took a little while to do it but this big Sycamore stump is now history thanks to the BX23 . What a learning lesson it was. This tree was too close to the back of the house and since the house was built in the mid 60's, over years in the past the tree had allowed the grade to build up. (My property is slightly sloped) The tractor also did a fine job of helping me correct the grade.

What a powerhouse to be this small!!

Got-er-done

Hey great info. I am waiting for my new BX 23 now. Would like to know a little more info, how high did you have the engine running, while doing this work, and does it make a difference? Once you got the stump out, did you drag it with tractor, or carry it away with FEL? Thanks, for the photo. I too hope to have lots of winning stories, when I put my tractor to work. My dealer, has told me I can use the Demo 5030, one more time, so, I don't need the BX 23 to do it all, but it would be nice.

Have you considered having it mounted on the side wall of the barn?????? That is a trophy sized stump deserving of being recognized for all that will doubt the capabilities of the BX.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

TroyR57, I ran the throttle a little less than half while digging and if I ran it any faster I don't believe it made much difference. I don't have a hook welded on my 23's loader yet but I do my 2200. With a chain, I used the 2200 to flip the thing over upsidedown which left it mostly out of the hole. Then I dragged it with the loader slightly raised in reverse to its temporary destination. It was too heavy for the loader to pick up. I would guess total time to get this thing out was around 6 hours. (Geez, I should've just noted the hr meter but didn't /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Junkman, my barn wall is 26 ga. I don't think I could even lean it against it. But I do like the idea! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can just imagine that smaller stumps will be a breeze with this thing. Good thing that's mostly all the type that I will have left to do.

Wow...must be nice to have nice loose soil like that! If I don't have super thick clay to dig in, I've got rock! Mostly thick clay though. Even little 6" diameter black locust stump won't budge when you whack them with the loader around here (if the tree was alive and in good shape when cut down). I've popped plenty of long dead stumps out of the ground with no problem, but if you just did cut down a live tree in this soil, you can forget forcing it out even with a JD 4120. If I had a back hoe, sure it would be much easier...but this soil is still super thick and nasty clay /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Takes lots of work to get them out. Therefore I usually vote to leave them in the ground if we can saw them off low enough to avoid the mower deck.
