Several, all used and abused.
I have a Century 2535 that's about two years old with 150 hours on it. I've changed the fuel filter twice without any problems.

Last week I was digging some postholes and notices I was leaking fuel from my filter. It hasn't leaked before this.

I took it off and brought it to my dealer. He said they have allot of problems with them and gave me a new bowl and gasket.

Now the threads on the nut are so worn out that I can't get it tight again. It's like they are made of some very soft metal and have been used to many times. I think this is why it was leaking more than the dealers coments about the bowl, which I couldn't see any damge to.

After reading the other threads on the filters problems some of you have had, I've come to the conclusion it's not the best design out there.

I've take the entire unit off to try to get it to seal without any luck. Now that I look at it, I'm wondering why I can't just put an inline filter in there instead?????

Is there such a thing for diesel fuel?

What are the negatives to this?

I feel that replacing a poorly designed part with another will just be postponing the time when it happens again.

Thanks,
Eddie

One thing to consider is fuel pressure. I am not sure how much pressure is on the fuel filter on the Branson/Century tractors but IF it is considerable and you are talking about an automotive inline with rubber hoses and clamps it could blow off, or apart. I know I cant answer this question to a good degree for you and I am not trying to insult you, but actually I am just trying to stop you until someone can give you a better answer.

These IDI Motors don't run high fuel pressure pre-injection pump so you are pretty safe as far as filters go. One thing to keep in mind the IDI injection pumps are capable of generating around 300 bar (~4300 psi) so clean fuel is paramount. If you go with an aftermarket replacement filter kit try to find a filter in the 10 - 15 micron range.

You could probably go to a local diesel shop and find a filter housing with a spin-on fuel filter suitable to replace the existing failed unit/housing. You might even be able to find one online that has the housing and filter packaged, all you'd need to do is plumb the new filter housing inline replacing the original unit.

Good luck.

A problem with an early desighn is that there was a bad batch that were being overtightned at the factory causing it to crack the bowl. We would just pop in a new bowl ant this corrected the problem. I would just get a new replacement assembly if your threads are stripped and it should be as good as new
