A Fiskars x27 would eat that tinker toy's lunch.
Ever try to really swing a Fiskars x27 in a basement w/ a 7' ceiling?
Had one, broke. Slow & weak prior to failing.
What failed on it? A seal? An O-ring?
It's not for the "I burn 6 cord a year" situation, but rather "let's have a fire in the fireplace" case.
I bought one many years ago because it fit's my usage. I put it in the basement where the rec room is with one of our fireplaces. I burn way less than a cord/year. I've had 3 back operations so lifting can be problematic. I routinely have to cut down a tree on my little suburban lots about every few years.
I make sure to cut the firewood to length so it fit's in the HF splitter and let it dry outside w/ bark on for a year. Then during "burning season" I knock off the bark on about 10 of the log chunks and bring them inside. I've a "pad" set up by the basement door where I "split". Then any time of the day or night, usually while watching TV, I can split a little wood, feed a fire. If my inside log pile get's low I wait till I feel good and the weather is nice to replenish. Splitting gives me a little exercise in a comfortable situation, sort of like a Nordic Trac.
One comment is only partially true:
Even my wife, who weighs only 100 lbs., can use it. She thinks it's like skiing so I let her do the work.
I tried that SWMBO said NO WAY.
And it has little dinky wheels so it stands up and rolls around easily.
And I think I got it on sale for $99.99 w/ a 25% off coupon.
Too many times it seems TBN'ers "dump" on something just because it's not their "life style" or "big enough". This is only for the "casual woodsplitter".
Looking at the picture that must be an upgraded model to split those big logs. So maybe it is worth twice the price
