Just checked the parts list and they show a $3.80 O-Ring should have been between the pump and housing. That's why I had rust and most likely caused the problem. Water probably got in when washing the radiator and lower parts as I've never directly washed the engine.

Aha... makes sense now.

Since water got in and no telling the damage was done. So to be safe going to start removing case assembly so I can replace the bearing and gear before installing another pump.
Seriously doubt if Mahindra will stand behind their mistake.
Update:
Just talked to them, my fault because the dealer didn't service it and its a 12 year old tractor. They would have seen the problem earlier on. RIGHT !!!!!.
They really have idiots in their customer service.

Anything to keep from having to pay for a manufacturing defect. That pump wasn't "right" the day it left the factory.

After doing the repairs I'm going to take them to small claims court and try to recover my labor ( $85 dollar per hr) and parts. Being retired I've got nothing better to do, if nothing else maybe they'll have to spend money defending the charge.

Your labor rate should be same as their posted rate.

Using the rate my local Ford/ Cub Cadet dealer quoted me if they did the work.

Is your tractor under warranty? If yes, then I have to wonder why you're doing the work yourself, instead of taking it to a dealership for them to properly diagnose and repair.

If it's not under warranty, then oh well. Stuff breaks.

The biggest question I had was whether the grooves had been damaged which would have forced me to replace the gear in the case.
Couldn't really see inside the gear to verify the grooves due to the angle.
Solution I came up with was to cut the spline off the shaft and reversed it to check them. Happy to find that the grooves are not damaged so the gear is a much harder metal than the pump shaft and I doudt
enough moisture got in to cause other issues. Dealer has a used pump that I will get.
Needless to say this has been a learning. experience. IMG_20190419_141202.jpeg
