Okay so after reading everyone's threads on adding lights to their tractors I decided that I had to have some lights on my BX. Largely because its cool, and partially because I usually need some additional light to finish mowing and as well as taking the trash down to the end of the road (3.5 acre lawn and 1/4 mi driveway).

So after spending way too much time and money on this little project the end result is three TSC Navigator lights mounted on my BX - 2 putting out 400 lumen each facing forward and one putting out 320 lumen out the back. I was originally going to try and mount the switches under the dash and run the relays and wiring underneath the body panels........However, there just ain't a lot of room to do that easily without cramming things here and there and generally getting into uncomfortable positions in order to do it. Plus I really wasn't crazy about the idea of cutting holes in the tractor for switches.

So the end result is that I purchased a 4x4x6 Carlon junction box from Home Depot and turned it into an accessory console mounted just behind the cup holder next to the seat. At first I thought it was going to be way too big, but after cramming 3 relays, a 6 position fuse block, an 8 terminal ground block, and a 12 volt power port inside it things are a might bit cozy.

Basically two of the relays control the lights, one each forward and rear. The third is not in use at the moment but is pre-wired so that if I ever want to add more lights, a fan, or some other electrical device I'm ready to go.

The additional power port is because I generally plug my phone in while mowing and listen to music. - 3.5 acres of mowing gets monotonous without music. I try and keep the phone on charge because with 3 kids under 6 years old I've been yelled at more than once by the SWMBO for mowing with a dead phone. I tried using the factory port on the lower right but after nearly kicking my iphone and charger under the mower deck a couple of times I've given up on that particular arrangment. Have a port next to the cup holder means I can just plug the phone in and set in the cup holder and forget about it.

Other than a little bit of tapeing and a tiny bit of split loom things are pretty much done. The only other thing I would like to do are to order a couple of Carling switches from OTRATTW. Specifically I was thinking these:

Head Lights

Spare Auxiliary Light

Wench Light re-labeled as "Tail Light" - Yes I know, but its my tractor darn it! :D

Anyways here are some pictures of the install

Looks good.

Those carling switches are real good quality I used them on my install.

About the only thing Id do different would be having the junction box mounted where it is. There is a surprising amount of room under the dash once you get in there.

I don't doubt you about the space. The guts of the system may yet wind up under the dash one day. However, the other issue with this build is that aside from replacing fans and light switches this is the first time I've ever any wiring this complex. So having everything in one spot made trouble shooting a little easier. In any case it was cool learning experience - probably the most significant is that the color of the wiring doesn't mean squat even when dealing with products from the same company. On two of lights I installed the black was ground and on the other white was ground. Very annoying at 4:30 in the morning when the caffeine hasn't hit yet.

Reguarding the Wench Light switch, will OTRATTW relabel it? I like that idea for my rear work light too

I seem the remember that there was about a 15 dollar up charge on new designs, but that there was no additional charge for changing the the text on existing switches. Dont quote me on that tho. Either way its worth it to me to have something a little tongue in cheek. I'm spending way too much time using this tractor not to be able to get additional enjoyment where I can.

:D while I know it's a street sweeper in the pic, I tend to think of my tractor in these terms:

Anyways, if anyone's actually reading this for an evaluation of the led lights from Tractor Supply (Navigator NV-720t, NV-700t) I can say that they are a reasonably affordable solution @ ~ $64 per light. While you can't use them to guide the space shuttle in for a night landing or signal space aliens they are more than adequate for nighttime work lights. I don't think with the NV-720t's, which are considered flood lights, I would want to go with a single forward light. However using two lights I had plenty of throw and a generous amount of spill from the sides of the beams.
