On December 12, our son will get his Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering! It's hard to believe that the years have gone by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday he was a little baby in my arms. He's graduating from the University of South Florida, a huge school (45,000 students) that nobody ever heard of. He considered entering the work force until he found out how few jobs there are out there, so he starts graduate school in January. Between pre-paid tuition (one of our few smart money moves) and scholarship money, his degree is fully paid for, and he even has money in the bank!

Congratulations to you and your son! That is a great milestone. Too bad the job market is so poor, but grad school won't hurt in the long run. Plus it's really harder to do later once one is tied down to job, kids, etc.

Congrats indeed! Sounds like a Financial Peace U. family to me. I wish somebody had suggested to me that you should pay for college as you go. I stretched out student loan payments for 10 years. It's become an expected way of life for college students now.

Florida has a pre-paid plan we used. When he was a tot, 4 years of college was only $5K! The scholarship money he got (anther FL program) was double that, so he essentially 'made' money in college. If he can get a job as a TA, that will pay for his graduate studies. He should be able to walk out of there with a Masters degree, and no student loans.

It seems like only yesterday our children were in University. Fortunately the Company I worked for Paid their tuition. Since they could live at home all I had to supply were vehicles and credit cards.:D
