Ok, have looked at some previous threads...

This is my first attempt at slapping the MMM on my BX25.

I haven't sworn this much since I was in the infantry; is there any trick to the coupler or is it just a PITA and it gets to be less so the more you do it?

At this point, if I get it on, I will be plowing with the **** thing before I take it off again..

I assume you are referring to connecting the mid mount pto output shaft to the mower pto shaft? I fight this on my Deere mower as well. i spray everything with silicone spray and make sure everything slides easily and is clean. I also have a theory that the balls inside the coupler sometimes catch due to gravity...so last time i rotated the shaft so the 2 balls were horizontal...and it went on real easy...prior attempts would not go on.

Make sure you retract the collar on the coupler before attempting to slide it on the PTO shaft.

Once you have it on, the collar should pop out to it's un-retracted position, locking the mower side drive shaft onto the PTO shaft on the tractor.

It can be a pain. I've hooked my PTO shaft up in 20 seconds and I have had it take several minutes. It seems important to me to get it square to the hook up. In other words if its angled at all it makes it harder.

Hate to admit it, but rswyan was spot on. Slipped right on. Stopped swearing at the deck and started swearing at myself. Stupid.

Thanks for saving my sanity. Even got the first few new mower scalps out of the way :)

Have a great holiday weekend guys

Not sure if this will help next time, but the coupler can be pulled back and "snapped" in the open position so you (usually) only need one hand to slide the coupler onto the PTO shaft. Once it's on, the coupler will snap closed. Mine is a bit hair-trigger and will sometimes snap closed while I'm trying to slide it onto the shaft. Wasn't sure you knew that the coupler can be held open on it's own. Still not easy, but it helps if it stays in the open position while trying to get it lined up and slid onto the PTO shaft.

Sounds familiar. Mine is a 2004 model and getting to be *VERY* hair triggered. I try to put it on and discover it's already snapped closed again. It complicates it that I have a Bro-Tek plate on, so it has to pass through that and I have to get my hand in between the brake rod and the plate. But I won't be w/o the Bro-Tek.

I have a 2002 BX2200 so I'm not sure how the decks compare, but I've found that after I slide the mower under the tractor and before I hook anything else up, I maneuver the mower to give me the most room to connect the drive coupler. Then I realign the mower to connect the lift points, etc.

I agree. Hook the shaft up first, then do the rest.

Another tip to ease the connection of the MMM PTO coupler is to place the PTO lever in the "rear" PTO position. This allows the mid PTO shaft to rotate freely & makes a big difference when you are trying to align the splines.
