Hi everybody. I'm another newbie with the "need" for a compact tractor. I have a 9 acre tract of land that has a house on it that was built in 1910. Also on the land is a hand dug well about 50 feet deep that always has water in it. I'm paying a fellow to bush hog it this week just to see the lay of the land. It used to be a small cotton field and was last farmed in 1984. You can just imagine how grown over it is. To say nature took it back is an understatement. My other tractor is the usual craftsman riding lawnmower with a 46" mid mount mower. I can not imagine riding a 46" mower through all of the weeds and bushes. I have too many saplings that need to be taken down. My goal for the property is to build a 30x40 shop and a cordwood house. About 1/2 the property is wooded with tall pines, oak, walnut, and birch. Quite a few places too to have a house built into the side of a hill in the trees. We want to move there in about 6 years when I retire from the Feds. I need the tractor to keep the pasture under control with a 6 or 7 foot finishing mower, and a tractor big enough for a backhoe for the sewer system, and to plow and maintain a 2 or 3 acre food plot. The attachments I can see getting down the line is an auger, a box blade, and the backhoe. right now with the mower I'll need the loader to move some gravel to make a road into the property. I have a Kubota and a JD dealer in town. The JD dealer is offer a 2010 4120 with a 400-CX loader and frontier bush hog for $28k. The Kubota dealer has a new 2008 3940 with a non self leveling loader and a similar bush hog for $25K. Kubota has 60 month 0% financing, JD 48. The JD has HST trans, Kubota GST. Anyone have any thoughts or preferences between the two? Until I get the garage built for it, I'll have to tow it about an hour each way. I sold a dually and bought an avalanche ( i know, dumb move. But at the time we didn't have this land. It kind of just presented itself to us and we got an excellent deal) The 'lanche is rated at 7000 lbs. towing and a have a trailer rated for 11000, but I would still prefer not to load either one to the limit. I'll probably have to get another dually. Well, I have probably overstayed my "welcome", so I will shut up now. Thanks for reading!
