Another no hydraulics problem

Background : My IH CUT model 284 (purchased new in 1980) Has 3ph and a fel.

Has performed very well over the years but a couple of days ago no hydraulics front or back.( functioned the day before normally)

Hyd fluid level was way down --->filled reservoir still no hyd. Then changed to a new filter--> still no go. No discernible leaks noted.

I loosened a fitting near the control and got some fluid to seep out around said fitting(motor running)

Hyd pump ??? I don't know. Any help will be appreciated.

I would wonder if it has lost its prime. I don't know but I like to start with the easy and cheep things and see if they work. Ed

Just did a google search and I have this question. Is it an external pump? If so check to see if it gets hot when the tractor is running, excess heat would point to a prime issue. If it does be careful, you can overheat it and cause even more problems. Ed

The pump is external. How dose one go about restoring lost prime?

A new filter was changed after problem showed up. (no help ) No screens mentioned in owners manual. Where are they usually located?
