This stump put up quite a battle. This is the one that I posted in an earlier thread. I had originally dug down about five foot with my stump bucket, and still couldn't it to budge. My hole had filled up from recent rains, and after a few weeks, it finally dried up. I was determined that I was going to get it today. After digging and pushing, I got a chain around it, and hooked it over my stump bucket. I was lifting the rears off the ground. That ole Mississippi clay had a good grip on it! I was persistent, and finally won the battle. It was about eight foot long, just as I suspected.

BTW, that stump was all heart. No telling how long it had been there. I broke off a splinter, and but a match to it....went up like a candle!
Those old lighter knots sure do smell good.

Good job on the stump. I have the CID stump bucket too. Handy little gadget.

That was a massive stump. Now comes the task of filling in the hole left behind. But, you've already done the Hard work.

I,m almost afraid to do anymore grading. Seems everytime I do, I uncover another hidden stump! We sold some timber about 40 years ago, and I believe that's where these old stumps came from. I've dug out about a dozen so far.

Lots of folks think a tree stump will rot out in a few years and hardwoods may, but pines just linger on and on. Cedar and Cherry stay with you too. Having to deal with hidden objects: That is the fun part. Not much fun if you just drag back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Pretty boring, but if you snag a big rock or stump that you have to dig out, then it becomes a challenge and a bit more interesting. Not as interesting as snagging a water line, but more fun. I have removed every rock, stump and tree that is in my way so now I have to search for something to do. Yesterday, I picked up the 2 row cultivator and repositioned all the plows to make the widest row possible (39" center to center) and moved the side harrow plows out to maybe throw more dirt up to mound up the row and tilted all the plow angles to the max. I also adjusted the depth on the 3 back plows to the max depth as they were mismatched. I haven't tried it yet to see if it does better than before. We have had this old Ford cultivator for 3 years and never used it. I hooked it up to my brother in laws NH and found that his tires don't match the row middles (too narrow) so next time I will have to put it on the LS but I may be a bit too wide but will be close since the outside to outside is 84" . I just hope I don't hang an immovable object with it and rip off a shank. That 7010 just don't stall. I used it to pull over a big oak that was blown down and ended up about 15 feet in the air setting on 4 big limbs. I had it in mid range 1st gear at just above idle as 1200 rpm and it was spinning all 4 tires but not stalling the engine. The old tree was half of a twin that had grown together but was rotten in the middle. The high winds from last month blew down the western half but it was still partially attached at the bottom. The Blue Beast had a little problem with traction but with some repositioning to drag it at an angle, she pulled it right away from the trunk, just like ripping a telephone book in half.

Now that's a feat worthy of a big tractor. Very surprised that you got it out. How long did it take you to get it out, start to finish?
