Kubota B7610,
I know this has been beaten to death but I haven't seen this question yet. TSC has both the subsoiler #2128333 and the midbuster #2128228 priced at $120.00 locally. This is somewhat less than their web price. Queston is would it be better to get the subsoiler and add a furrower or get a midbuster and add a ripper tooth. Will mount on Kubota B7610 25 HP.
Price won't matter since soiler lists at $160.00. Any thoughts? All comments will be appreciated. I know the subsoiler has a longer shank but don't know if that will matter. I had originally thought about a moldboard plow but that was $500.00 and I really am just dressing two small gardens that I have tilled (troybuilt) for 10yr. Reading the forums makes me think this idea will work and save me some $$$. Thanks

I think the sub soiler is a little longer than the middle buster, so i'd buy the sub soiler.

You are asking two questions, correct?

1. Which implement to buy?

2. Is a middle buster an adequate substitute for plowing up a garden patch?

The second question first. Yes. While a middle buster doesn't throw nicely turned furrows, for the price, lots of us use it exclusively for plowing.

The first question. Doesn't TSC sell a "combo" unit?

I bought the middle buster last week. There is another difference besides the lenght of the shaft. Look at the angle of the piece on the bottom. The sub-soiler is at a 90 degree angle and the middle buster is at about 45 degrees.

I have this one from TSC:

Not sure of the SKU#, but it's plenty beefy and very long compared to the SKU# 2122476. For $12 + shipping I was able to get a 15" furrower made of the finest Chinese steel from AgriSupply. It works great in the garden.

I saw the 16" furrow at that price at AgriSupply but the 15" was $43.49 and I'm wondering why the big difference in price?

Anyway, you stated you have the longer subsoiler but have replaced the chisel point with the furrow with good results despite any angle differences?

Thanks as I am contemplating the same. I want to plow and also dig some ditches for water pipes to the garden and possibly lay some electrical lines. Should this set up work.

Thanks to all?

i have both, a subsoiler and a middle buster. the subsoiler is a fred cain brand, and is a beast. the middle buster is king kutter and is ok quality wise. i bought both, thinking they would be good for putting in wire, etc, as i had seen posted on here before. i think the subsoiler would be great for this, if you have lots of room to navigate. the middle buster in my opinion is useless for anything other that shallow ditches, and maybe turning a garden. i really thought the middle buster would dig a deeper trench, but it only goes as deep as the furrower is long. i was able to get the trench about 8 inchs deep, which in my opinion, is no where near deep enough to bury wire or anything else. i guess the subsoiler woud bury it deep enough if a guy rigged a piece of conduit to the subsoiler and buried your wire with it, but here in missouri, we have so many rocks, i am afraid to use wire without conduit, and dont think you could bury conduit this way. anyway, just my 2 cents on subsoilers and middle busters. maybe other guys have had more luck, and my opinion maybe based on operator error, lol, which wouldnt be the first time.

My mistake - must have been the 16" one - I know it was very inexpensive and I was very low on funds.

I did have to shorten up the top link to get the angle such that the bottom of the 'tato plow blade was level with the ground.

Also - I had to adjust which holes the top link pins to the gearbox to get full depth out of the subsoiler. At that setting it barely clears the ground when fully raised.
