Another winter storm headed for western NY???

Hey folks, I just checked the NWS page for western NY and it's all red with a winter storm warning. They're predicting another 10-12 inches of snow by tomorrow night! Anybody had this system come through yet? Should I put the snowblower back on?

I just saw the forcast on the news, I should see about 6"-10" so they say! Guess I'll go skiing at Bristol on Wed. morning! Still have some free passes to use up!

P.S. How long have you lived here?! You shold know that you don't take the snow blower off untill you need to put the mower deck on! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And then sometimes thats too early! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Von, I grew up in the Finger Lakes area, but left about 20 years ago. I moved back to NY last summer but further west--near Jamestown. Jeesh, we've had some wierd weather here this winter. It didn't really start until after Christmas, then it seemed to stick around with a vengence.

Our runoff happened in just a few days. We had about 2.5 feet of snow come off in about as many days! We had about a week of near 60 degrees, thus the decision to take the blower off. We had 4-5 inches of snow late last week, but by then the ground was so soft, the blower would've gouged right in to my (mostly) native surface driveway.

To top it off, the meadow voles (I guess) have been very busy digging and tunneling, so much so that they've really done a number on the subsurface hydrology here. Very interesting first year, to say the least...

I'm more central NY, but we are in the same boat. This AM they were predicting 6" and now they are saying 12-16". I'm glad I didn't take the blower and chains off. I hate snow this late in the season, picking up too much gravel because the ice base is gone and if you drive off the edge of the driveway you're goning to get some serious ruts in the mud...

I have been looking at the piles of stones that I plowed off the driveway, itching to rake them up, but a little voice in the back of my head kept telling me "wait." I am glad I did!

Well, looks like we got hit pretty good! I've got at least a foot on the ground since noon and its still coming down hard! Looks like the blower will still get some use this year! Here in eastern NY we got 6 inches, more in some places. This will be the second weekend in a row, that I was planning on frost seeding my pastures, and couldn't because of snow!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
