Are these steering wheel lock bars used on cars any good...how much time will someone waste on cutting/grinding those off...my tractor(Kub MX 5000) is in an enclosed barn, chained to the concrete, loader tilted and front wheels turned away from the door so to make it a must to start it in order to winch it...so are these steering wheels locks worth the $40 / $ 60 $ as a further retardant ?

The bars themselves are difficult to cut through. A thief will just cut right through your steering wheel faster than you could imagine and remove the bar that way. You already seem to make it difficult to steal, which usually is enough. Just remember that if someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it. For instance, someone with a flat bed could back up to it and winch it on up no problem. Remember, "Locks keep honest people, honest".

They're worthless.

I saw on TV one night how car thieves deal with steering wheel "the Club". The guy just hacksawed thru the steering wheel in less that 15 seconds. I guess the metal ring in a steering wheel is awfully soft material.

I saw one show where the thief just put a foot to the steering wheel and bent it enough to remove the bar. The thief had to drive away with a lopsided steering wheel, but he seemed ok with that...

As long as you werent there to stop me I could probably have your tractor on a roll back truck in 15 minutes using hand tools.

battery powered abrasive cutter pretty much eats ANY grade chain in less than a minute.. same with that hardened wheel lock.

loader can be jacked up then the cyl chocked open with a piece of angle iron just enough to keep the blade off the ground.

tires faced wrong? who cares.. that's what winches are for.. they don't even have to spin.. have you never seen a flattened car from a bad wreck sucked up on a rollback.

ok.. maybee 10 minutes... :( sorry.. if someone want's your stuff and you aren't there to stop them... they can get it. sad fact. there is about one anti-theft post per month here... wheel locks and battery cutoffs.. etc.. removing a wheel, or battery.. those just mean a couple extra minutes of planning.. or a different set of tools for the crook to bring. In the end.. if it will fit on a rollback.. it's pretty much impossible to prevent an item from being stolen.

insurance it your best mitigating factor here...

A battery powered alarm rigged to your door, doors for lights and sound and some insurance is what I would do if I was worried about it.

Have fun

Thx for the replies, looking on the bright side you guys just saved me a few bucks on a useless device.

This almost makes me long for the days when all I had was next to worthless "old iron" sitting in the field.....hmmm OK maybe not :)

they'd steel (pun) that too.. scrappers get pennies on the pound for tractors.. lotsa pounds in a old tractor!

My son in law opened my steering wheel "Club" in about 10 sec .using picks to open door locks . He isn't a locksmith , and doesn't use the picks all the times.
4H club member and each year at camp, Kids are always there loosing there keys. So he opens there locked items.
