Hope this is the right palce to ask about antifreeze.
Here are some questions

1) What brand other thean OEM of antifreeze do folks use? The premixed 50/50 by Prestone looks good. What do you all think?

2) How often do you change antifreeze? Hours of use? Years? Color?

NAPA on sale.

I drain, flush and re-fill (with new) in all my tractors each fall.

Trucks and cars as needed. (test current anti-freeze)

Diesels, ESPECIALLY wet sleeve diesels have a tendency to cavitate (in cooling system) In those wet-sleeve motors, that leads to holes in the cylinder sleeves. Anti-freeze becoming acidic is also a major factor in this malady. Fresh (clean) coolant and a good anti-cavitation additive helps prevent expensive problems. (I use an additive from Fram in my diesels)

Old anti-freeze goes to my neighbor who puts it in tractor tires. (I still use Calc/Chlor or windshield washer solution myself)

How do you test your antifreeze?
What additive from Fram do you use?
Why each Fall in your tractors and only as needed in your road vehicles?

Since 80% of my tractors are fords/ NH units.. I use the CNH product.. My 5000 and 7610s each take an entire bottle for themselves.

If you look around, some diesel antifreezes are 'precharged' with cavitation addatives.. though.. I have not tried them, and instead have followed my dealers and manual's recomendation of 1 bottle addative per collant change.. etc.
If your unit uses a coolant filter.. some of those can be bough pre-charged too..

Litmus test. (acid/alkainity) One of those cheap testers with the floating balls. Can't recall their name.
What additive from Fram do you use?
I don't have the part# with me. It's available at any good truck parts store. I've also used John Deere additive. My Deere has a coolant filter. Like SoundGuy said, some of those filters come pre-charged. I get mine WITHOUT a pre-charge and add my own. (Filters are common to most Deeres with coolant filter. System volume varies considerabley. Additive used is based on coolant system capacity)
Why each Fall in your tractors and only as needed in your road vehicles?
Car and truck use "lifetime" coolant. If and when it NEEDS changing, I'll do that. Diesels that log a lot of hours need fresh coolant to lower the chances of the electraulysis (sp?) (wet-sleeve pitting) All three tractors combined require a total of 6 gallons of coolant. Seems like a low buck compared to new cylinder sleeves.
