Antiroll Device for TN

Guys,

I want to use a ball hitch on my TN. The problem is that the fixed draw bar is to thick. Significantly over 1" thick. So I found the biggest 2 5/16 ball possible and it just barely works. The problem is no space for the lock nut, so it works loose. I don't like this setup at all. Unsafe for all but the shortest trips.

So a real cat2 draw bar would be just the ticket. But an antiroll device is needed. The problem I have is that the anitroll devices on the market are to small. The TN has adjustable side arms that allow the ends to pop out several inches for implement hook up. Very handy but the arm ends are huge. The only device the dealer has is not going to fit.

Anyone have a solution to this problem?

Fred, did you check with your NH dealer? I know it's hard to find a ball off-the-shelf that has a longer bolt, but I have seen balls with integral bolts and also ones with removable bolts that would be suitable (long enough) for your swinging drawbar so you don't have to use the cat 2 drawbar. If NH doesn't have them, you might try a specialty "trailer hitch" place. I just figure that since NH makes the drawbar, your dealer is the most likely spot to know where to get the correct ball and any bushing you might need to reduce the drawbar's hole diameter. ...sorry, not an answer; only a suggestion. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I seen some with 2.5 inch bolts at Wally World.

Long shanked hitch balls are sometimes a little difficult to find in the store, but they do make them. Just one place is draw-tite with shanks up to 3 3/8". Click on "products", scroll down to "stainless steel hitch balls" and look at those.

I hope not to go that route due to cost. I have a semi-infinte list of attachments that I need to buy and of course the budget is not on the same order of magnitude.
So.. I hope to find a cheep solution since those fancy 3-point reciever setups are pricey.

But it could be a good excuse to buy the welder I have been thinking about.....

Yeh, that was the unfortunate part of this story. They were then ones that sold me the one that did not fit /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
In fairness they said at the time they were not sure if it would fit.
I hear a lot of "you do not need one of those ....." kind of talk from locals, so I may be that they get very little call for them and have not looked into it. Also its such a cheap part.
These guys usually do a good job though on most other issues.

The problem is I use it with a big dump trailer, and need a 10,000 lbs 2 5/16" ball. The draw bar has a hole a little over 1 1/4" which is perfect since the heavy 2 5/16" balls are 1 1/4".
I have one from tractor supply that has a 2 1/8" bolt length. Thats just long enough to get the bolt barely on with out the lock washer. So the bar must be the better part of 2" thick.

Drawtite long shank balls appear to be only for the light duty balls.
I will do a search for ball hitches or maybe have some one weld up a longer bolt on the bottom of my current 2 5/16" ball.

Thanks for the ideas. I got so focused on an anitroll device that I ignored the simpler soultion of a long shank ball.

A litttle searching came up with a 2 5/16" ball that has a 1 1/4" diameter shank 3" long. And its rated to 12,000 lbs!
Just the ticket.
