One of our Scout parents fly's Fed-Ex out of Anchorage. From what he describes, there is a very busy hub there.

I was in Ankorage, Alaska the other day waiting to fly back to Vancouver and amongst all the 747 cargo planes that landed was a Antonov. It was just taxiing in when our flight was leaving. I was amazed at all the 747-400 cargos that were landing there, probably 12-14 within the hour or so I was sitting there, three JAL's landed within fifteen minutes of each other. Does anyone know what is delivered/picked up by all these planes? There were also 10-12 Fed/Ex jets there as well. All of the 747's were asian lines.

Thanks Steve

I was flying out of Hartford (Bradley) and the Antonov was was being loaded with many Sikorsky "Black Hawk" helicopters (built in Stratford, CT). It was truly amazing to see, since the Black Hawk is a large helicopter and they were so dwarfed compared to the Antonov. Since I live near Sikorsky, Black Hawks are common to see in the air and are still awesome to see, so watching the Antonov take off must be something!

Kind of interesting how we hire a Russian (Ukrainian?) company to transport our military choppers while we fight a enemy supplied with Russian designed AK's and other hardware. I wonder why the C-5's aren't utilized more, as they are just up the road in the Springfield, MA. area.
