I finally have my barn going up next month. Using a builder that someone on this board wrote about a while back. I'll post pics as it goes. My question is this. I'm going to delay getting concrete for awhile. What should I consider as I build the barn for use for a couple years without concrete, then pouring down the road.

Consider whether there'll be so much stuff in the barn in two years that you won't want to empty it enough to pour concrete. MikeD74T

Consider this, Only have the part of your barn that has equipment on it concrete, do the rest in pt 2x6es an plywood. its alot easer on your feet an leggs. check with local building coads , you may need a step in concrete to wood.

Depending how big the building is, make the door big enough to back a concrete truck in?
Thats what I did.

I've had my 30x48 barn for several yrs with a gravel floor, finally poured concrete this summer. I have a door at each end, they were able to pour half way from each end real easy with a chute.
emptying it out was a pain.

I added concrete floor to my barn in the early Winter.
Was not expecting it to be so cold for Texas. We packed dirt around the outside of the steel walls so the concrete would not run under the walls. It worked good. I would not recommend pouring in cool weather, inside the barn. We ordered the concrete and insisted the company deliver no later than 9:00 AM, they said sure thing! Concrete showed up at 12:00 PM, we were there waiting to finish it, and finally started the finish at 2:00 AM. I wanted a smooth garage type surface. I rented a big heater and had it lit up good. Nothing helped speed it up.

Just remember as you put in concret ur property taxes will increase so do you really need a concret floor. I left mine dirt except for where i work and built a wood floor there.

Bite the bullet and pour the concrete now. I tried the building the barn now and concrete later thingy. I made it about two months. It's a shack with out a floor. It's a barn when it has a floor.

A couple of years turned into nearly 20 in my case. Lots of stuff to move. Major pia. And I spent years regretting not having that concrete floor. A dirt floor is plain misreable to work on.
