Grass Flap – GrassFlap

Way cheaper than buying a rear discharge finish mower, and it's handy around flower beds too.

I've owned side discharge mowers for over 40 years. About 10 years ago I bought a rear discharge deck for my tractor and loved it. A bit later I bought a rear discharge Kubota F front deck mower and got a rear discharge by choice. Later bought another F and bought a side discharge (what was available on the lot). Hated the side discharge deck and sold the F to get rid of it so I could buy another F with rear discharge. Bought a small Kubota Z that only came in side discharge so bought the mulching kit to stop the side discharge. Couple years ago bought a Kubota ZD326 and DEMANDED a rear discharge deck over dealer owners protests (who has never owned a rear discharge deck for his personal use) and was totally satisfied with the rear discharge deck.
On normal height grass they windrow less than a side discharge. On high grass they both do windrows so the rear discharge deck is never worse than the side discharge and much better with normal height grass.
I to hate grass blowing on me, like using both sides of the deck (mulching kit or rear discharge deck) and don't awlays follow a good mowing pattern wich isn't required with rear discharge decks. One can mow helter skelter, back and forth or in circles or backwards or sideways and it doesn't matter, try it with a side discharge and see what happens if the grass is the least bit high.
Yes, thru many years of actual experience with both and also one that sells and trades often so concerned with resale value the rear discharge deck gets a 98% to the 32% side discharge by my scoring. Yep, the side discharge can be blocked which cuts down on it's performance since it tis designed to discharge the clippings out the side and away from the deck.
A F and zero turn rear discharge deck does blow clippings under the machine which is why leaf blowers were built, to blow that grass away after mowing.

We just got a new 60" zT mower with rear discharge deck and love it so far. The wife cut a 3 acre pasture with 2 foot high fescue and it cut beautifully. She mowed the lawn and you really cannot see any clippings, it just spreads them out. We chose it for two reasons mentioned above, you don't get the clippings in the face when mowing on a windy day, and you don't have that side discharge chute in the way when next to a building or obstacles.
We discussed it with the dealer, he said the side discharge may give a little better cut, but it seems to do a great job.
