Any downside to purchasing a Yanmar 336D?

The 3T80 in the JD850/YM2500/YM2610/and other YMs of the 3T80 share many engine parts with the JD950 3T80. Wonder if the 3T84 has a mix of both the 3T80 and 3T90?

I have had a 336d for over 20 years. A reliable tractor for the most part. Some of the early models had weaker spindles, the later were larger and I upgraded after I broke one. If, as with many tractors, you mow in high weeds/chaff etc. you have to watch the radiator or it clogs up and can get hot. Just have to keep it clean.
My axles leaked at the seals, I replaced them years ago. Not too big of expense but my father in law was a retired heavy equipment mechanic so that really helped.
It is a good starting tractor even in the very cold for the most part and fuel efficient. About a gallon an hour.
Hope that helps some. If you have more questions I only visit this site a couple times a month so I could miss future questions.

I would have no idea.. I didn't order engine parts. So, the 3T90 engine parts may not work in my engine... You probably have done more research on this than I have..I always heard ,and was told , it is real close to a 950 & 1050 JD.. It could be, that none of the JD motors are a match for mine.Only other parts are

I thought Yanmar supplied the engines etc. for the JD 750 through the 1050 lines. For memory I thought the bore and stroke on the Yanmar and 950 etc. were slightly different. Some parts seemed like they could interchange but since I did not have an interchange manual I just bought Yanmar parts.
The other thing I should add about the spindles. I have a Yanmar loader. If one did not have a loader I would imagine there would be a lot less stress on the front end parts.

I had a 1982 336D for well over 10 yrs. Had an after mkt FEL on it, and it got worked hard. Did replace front spindle seals on it, and broke a front wheel due to loading it too heavy. Had a pair of front wheels made, using Bud outer rims, and 3/8 plate for centers. I did get it hot, from weed chaff as mentioned by yanmars, and when I washed the radiator fins out w/ garden hose, didn't do a good job, and the dust accumulated there turned to mud, and got hot again very quickly. Pulled the radiator and had it rblt, and it operated like nothing had ever happened. However, it smoked, and blew a little oil out the exhaust pipe. Plenty of power, sounded good etc., but figured it probably had steel rings (most of them do) and the o'heat had taken the temper out of them. Went tractor shopping, and the best deal I found was on a CCYanmar EX450. Nice tractor, but not nearly as well designed as the old 336 was. I advertised the 336 on CL, and ended up selling it almost immediately. I pointed out the smoke and oil blowing to the purchaser, and he didn't really care, said all he was gonna due was mow with it. I had installed a new muffler a few days prior to the heating incident.
I received a call from the new owner a few days later, informing me that he was box blading his driveway, and there was a large bang, and all kinds of oily stuff blew out the exhaust, and it didn't smoke anymore. Must have been something jammed it that new muffler. Wish I still had it, and would buy another one in a heartbeat. By the way - if the number designator after YM is 3 digits, it's a legitimate import. If it's 4 digits, it's a rice tractor.

Love the saying. :)
