Any Front Loader washer testimonials?

I'd seriously reconsider buying a Maytag Neptune. I have the set we purchased several years ago. We have had all of the problems listed above. Maytag has a huge class action lawsuit against them for the failure of this product and refuseing to fix the problems. The list of failures in the suit includes just about every component in the machine.
They are easier on cloths, they don't use less soap and HE soap is more expensive, water savings is minimal.
Before you consider a Maytag look at the fact that Maytag has changed the deseign of their product. I know of two of my neighbors who had the same set go to the dump with in five years. Mine is seven and the dryer sounds as if it will die any day. This is not the life expectancy I would hope for when buying a high end appliance like a Maytag front loader. You might notice that a lot of the posters here for the Neptune have only had them a few years. If you are bent on a front loader I'd look at other brands.

We tried a maytag neptune when they first came out. Sears brought it out and set it up. 2 days later they brought a different one out and set it up. 2 days later they brought us a top loader.

We tried a maytag neptune year before last. We wanted to replace the electric dryer with a gas dryer because california messed up and we were paying 25 cents a kwhr. Also was tired of replacing cam unit in the direct drive washer and our extended service contract finally ran out. So we tried the neptune set again. Sent it packing after a day. Went with a fischer paykel. The dryer is a relabeled GE but the washer is a thing of art. It is as water efficient as a front loader and does a better job of extracting in the final rinse than a neptune.

My opinion of the Maytag Neptune is ... it is a wonderful washer for little old ladies who never get their clothes dirty and don't want to use much water washing them. They are TERRIBLE for people with kids who get clothes really dirty.

Note that I have very hard water here and had hard water at my old place. I have been told this probably played a factor in our difficulty with the neptune. Even using the recommended tide HE detergent and following the directions "to the letter", the clothes came out crunchy. I ran a set of towels through the new top loader with no soap and it didn't need any. Lotsa suds. The rince cycle did not get the soap (or anything else for that matter) out. The dryers ran much too hot. I am not saying all maytag neptunes behave this way. Just the three we tried.

I have looked and looked and looked for a good front loader. You know, something you can put a king size comforter in. Something you can put all the towels 3 kids and 2 adults use on bath night in one load. I have seen them at the laundromats. I have not seen one at any appliance store.

I wrote an elaborate post then decided to can it.

The simple story is this: Maytag products are not what they once were and the Maytag repairman is no longer lonely, he is busy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I bought my Whirlpool models, I bought them at an appliance store that also sold Maytag. They were both around the same price, and when shopping around, it seemed that all stores were locked at the same price. It was the store owner who told me that he has had a lot of customer complaints about the Maytag but not on the Whirlpool. Since he was basically getting list price out of either make, I don't see where there would be any advantage for him to lie. Anyway, as I posted earlier, with 7 of us in the house, my wife does several loads a day every day. I suppose it has been well over a year now, and we haven't had our first problem with the Whirlpool models. I probably jinxed them now! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

( I bought this Kenmore set back in 2001. Never had a problem with either unit. I believe that Whirlpool is the manufacturer....)

This is probably why ours have been trouble free. Whirlpool (to my knowledge) makes most of the Kenmore line of appliances. Gerard

I have two post earlier in this series in which I sing the praises of the front loading washers. Ours is a Maytag Neptune and now that is has been nearly totally rebuilt it is a fine piece of equipment. But let me clear this up. I will never ever buy another Maytag product. I should have been clearer in my post, I highly recommend front loading washing machines. They have many advantages over the top loaders. These advantages become more apparent if you wash large amounts of clothing. Do not confuse my recommendation of front loaders with love of Maytag products. In a single word description they suck.

Maybe it needed fixing since we do a lot more then 4 to 6 loads per week and put a lot of clothes, blankets etc in it. They were easy fixes that could be done 10X quicker then a “repair person”. **** we do 6 to 8 just for our dogs beds and crate beds. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry no lemon colored at the stores I shop at. I also have tested my water and its TDS are very high and that does effect how effective the soap is. Your results may vary. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Also I would not make any global comments as you posted on items needing mixed after 2-years since my new Kubota needed more fixes within 2-years then my washer. So on your advice Kubota falls within you " Doesn't sound like a quality product to me...." /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
