My BIL was pushing up some limbs that we had cut off a fallen oak tree and somehow snagged something and broke the hydraulic filter off. The 3/4"? pipe thread fitting was broke off and still in the filter and easily removed. It looks to be cast iron or cast steel. The filter wasn't even dented. I couldn't get underneath to take a look due to all the limbs and briar vines but am hoping there is a replacement plate that bolts on to the transmission housing that can be easily removed and replaced.
We will go later and either pull the tractor home (about 1/4 mile away)or put it on a trailer to take to the dealer for repair, depending on the complexity of repair.
Oh, I think it is a Boomer T2030

I no the tc and earlier tractors it was a plate the filter housing was mounted on and you just changed the plate but I worked on a 4300 jd that this happened to and has to change the whole trans case

After I posted this (after searching TBN), I searched with Google and found Messick's has a website with schematic. I then called my BIL and found out that I had the model number wrong also which was a good thing as the 2030 housing was $136 bit the T2310 (correct model number) is only $66. BIL said he thought some oil was coming from the front of the tractor also, so something else may have broken. We will go tow it to the house this afternoon so we can check under it and see if something else is broken.
He called local NH dealer and the part will take about a week to get. So much for big 3 dealers getting parts quicker than the not so well known ones.

The NH filter is a suction filter. From the model number, it's probably an HST tractor. Right under the right side footrest, the large suction line from the filter assy goes into a rubber/plastic "T". That 't' is to allow the HST transmission to draw from the reservoir at the same time as the main pump up on the engine. It is often leaky after being disturbed. It just needs to have the hose clamps loosened and be repositioned if that's the problem. If the main hydraulic pump or high pressure side coming back to the diverter valve (the small line under the right side foot rest) then there's another problem, but a strike on the filter should normally not have any effect on the high pressure side.
