Re: Any one here raise and sell German Shepherd do

I have a long haired, black GSD. She sheds from May to September. All of the bird's nests are filled with her fur. I think we just brushed out the last of it today. Now her new winter coat will grow in. As others have said, she is nosey. She will push that long nose under your arm until you pet her. She is protective of the family and fine if she is introduced to a stranger.

My last GSD was a black and tan. Neither dog had ever bitten anyone. I still, however, have trouble getting homeowners ins. Many companies raise your rates if you hav a GSD.

Well,You all have given me a good reason to brag a little, this is our 7 year old son,Chase and our big 2 year old baby,Sadie.

They are inseparable,Sadie waits all day long for Chase to get home from School or wherever he might be,so they can play and be together. She is without a doudt, the best dog we have ever owned. From day one ,she adopted us as her family, our guardian, and the most loyal animal I have ever seen.

She wants nothing more than our attention and our love,we also have 7 grandkids, and it's the same with all of them. She plays and carries on with them all.I really pity the poor fool that would try to bring harm to anyone in HER family.

She is very protective of her domain, but she has never offered to bite anyone.I know she can sense a "good guy" from a "bad guy".

It is funny, "our" police K-9 is very friendly to all strangers, at home, or out (it's our other dog, the Ibizan Hound, who is death to strangers). He does not seem protective of the home at all, just wants to play with his toys. But we don't have kids, either; kids can bring out that protective personality.

There is one exception for the GSD: put him in his police cruiser, and he won't let a soul near. Even I have to make sure he hears my voice from a distance so I don't surprise him...course he's safely caged.

Re: Any one here raise and sell German Shepherd do

Thats a nice picture.....I have 4 children and 4 GSD's 3 of the East German Shepherd variety (DDR)The one I call an American GSD is 105 lbs, the East German (DDR) variety are about 60 lbs, they are all babys though....they cannot not get enough love and are always crowding each other and trying to get next to me.When I fire the JD 4400 up they goes crazy and know it is time to go to the woods and play.I carry a IE.police/coaches whistle and if they would happen to wander out of site I just use the whistle and they all come back to me.It is funny how they each have there own personality's.My wife had never had a GSD before and she was apprehensive at 1st,but know she absolutely loves our dogs.
Wonderful dogs ...........

That is very interesting. It must vary by area; before we could take a police K-9 (of any breed) at home we had to check on our homeowner's insurance, and there was no problem. This is in MD. It goes without saying he is never off-lead when off duty, even though he is not an aggressor-trained dog (he flunked out of bite school/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

Breeds that are "blacklisted" in this area (and I see in others) are pit bulls and rottweilers. This is not because they are inherently more aggressive, but because of the stupid owners, typically in the drug culture, who use these two breeds as macho images and train (torture) them to perform as fighters.

There is (as yet) no local or state ordinances in this area against those two breeds. I believe I read that New Jersey has enacted one. Here, it is the Animal Control departments that make things difficult for the breeds. If a pit bull or rotty is found stray (even with tags) in Montgomery County MD, they will not be returned to the owner unless the owner undergoes six months of "training". They also will not be adopted out in many cases. It's almost like once a pit bull or rotty is stray, it's an automatic death sentence.
