JD 250 Skid Steer
Hello, I have a JD 250 skid steer, and I have a boom "cylinder" seal leak, on the right side, I have a kit for it and tried to find out how to romove the shaft from the houseing, it has the split ring and I removed that, I tried to push in the piece that the c ring was on, and it will only go in maybe 1/4 inch, sounds like it is hitting something. I am a little dumbfound, any one have any idea ?? I asked the local dealer well they looked at me funny like I'm some kind of idiot, and said bring her in and we'll fix er up, I bought this unit from them paid over $25k new, I though they would have a little respect, but please any help would be great, thanks everyone.....

Go to jdparts (free but need to sign in) and search for 250 (a list will come up and there are several different 250 skid steers to look at). You may land on the one you have and get some help that you need from viewing the parts list and schematics.

Thanks for the help, I don't have any pic's at this time, I'm at work now. but all I see is the main out side cylinder / and the center shaft / there is like a coller that goe's around the main shaft and the out side caseing, there is a ring with 2 holes on it, it looks like it only keeps it is on from going in to the out side caseing, I removed the ring, then tried to slide the coller into the out side caseing, it only goe's in maybe 1/4 inch. some one said to slide it in 1 inch and the put in the orange plastic piece from the rebuild kit, then slide out the whole shaft. ????? I dont see anything the put the plastic piece into,
hope you under stand what I mean.... this is new to me... thanks for the help....

The second is a spanner set up you can see how it unscrews inthe article and how to build the wrench.

Some time you have to assist the seal out by pulling the rod straight out.
Some times you can un hook the hydraulic lines drain the cylinder and use the piston and rod as a slide hammer to perswade it out again be careful.
I've used come along's, air (be careful its easy to launch the rod and piston), or even a portapower to pump it out. Don't use equipment hydraulics it outs out too much flow you will lanch it for sure.

I found it in jdparts, under Model 250
Takes you to a list where 240 and 250 skid steers is found.
Going there, and under alphabetical "B" for boom, find a break at serial numbers 925239.

Going to the higher s/n, can find this pic.

Thanks for all of the help everyone, I now know what needs to be done. with the out side ring clip off, I can only slide the gland in 1/4 inch, not far enough to see the in side grove that the orange plastic piece goe's in to help keep the 2nd ring from expanding. My question is how hard can I be hitting the gland inwards with out recking anything ?

Pretty hard I would guess. There is nothing in there to hurt.

William , have you loosend the lines so hyd oil and air can escape? do that then using a brass drift punch try to tap the gland into the barrel. there is an intrenal split ring that you wont be able to see , that is wear the orange plastic ring comes in . pound (tap) the gland in just far enuff to expose the grove in the barrel that the orange ring fits into , problably more like a 1/2 inch . the orange filler ring alows the internal ring to slide by the grove and the gland and rod to pull out of the barrel .use the rod as a sort of slide hammer to knock the gland out of the barrel.
