Any other Service Rifle/Highpower shooters out there?

Hiya,

Since we are coming up on the shooting season, before long we'll be out on the line with our .30's and black rifles. Just wondering how many others out there will be joining my daughter and I trying to read the wind well enough to punch 10's on the 600 prone slowfire match.

Oh, anyone else going to Perry this year?

Tens and X's all the way!!!! I started shooting hi-power in 1994, and was a member of NCRPA (North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Association) team for a number of years. I started with the M1, a couple of years later moved up to the M1A, and for most of my shooting time shot an AR15. What a delight when they figured out the throating for the 80 grain bullets for 600. The only thing about the AR is shooting 3 different loads. 52 grain for 200 yds, 69 grain for 300 yds, and 80 grains for 600. In the M1A, I just loaded a bunch of 168 grain bullets and had at it. But the lack of recoil was worth the effort.

I made the trek to Perry a couple of times. What a blast! I stated shooting long range after a few years, and found that I really like laying perfectly still on the line while only moving my trigger finger. What other kind of sport can a lazy person do where the object is to remain almost motionless? I converted a Remington 700 from .270 to a 6.5'08 Cheeta chambering for the 1000 yd line. It works great. It's at least 1/2 to 1 minute better in the wind than a .308.

I reached my goal of Master before my eyes got bad enough that I had to stop. I'm telling you, these 16 year old kids, with eyes of an eagle can easily whoop an old mans butt.

It's been about 5 years since I've been to a match, and miss it. I like to say it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
