I tried to change the blade on my RM-59 today with no luck.

I put a screwdrive through the hole to hold one of the blade while I try to loose the bolt on other blade but nearby bent my screwdrive. I called my buddy over to help me hold on to blade with his deadly grip but I was way too much for him to hold on to it.

Any suggestion or tip that I may have overlooked? I tried to look for other way to lock the driven system but no luck. I haven't changed the blade since I bought it couple of years ago so.. Instead, I grinded the blade to mow the grass for now but would like to go ahead and change the blade tomorrow before I mow field again this coming weeked so grass would look good for next event on Sept 17-19.

Thanks in advance for answering!

I think they are left handed threads. My 306 was.

RM-500 is left hand thread as well, It discharged to the left hand side.

Are you using a impact wrench or a regular wrench by hand ? A impact will get it loose from the hammering action. Be careful of possible turning blades at the same time.

Instead of using your friends deadly grip, try placing a block of wood between the blades and the end of the mower housing to keep them from spinning while you loosen the bolt.

two things - PB Blaster and an impact wrench. obviously, make sure if its a left hand thread you're going the right way. a bolt/nut set with a good impact is nearly impossible to break free w/o breaking out the torch.

I have tried using my large socket wrench because the swinging arm is 16 inches long and even used a firewood to hold the blade but haven't had any luck. I wish I could use impact driver but my air compressor is not working. I said to heck with it and grinded that old blade until it was sharp then mow. I will use blowtorch when I have time to do it in Oct. I have event coming up this weekend so time is essence for me.

I have a piece of pipe that slips over the blade and hits up against the next spindle. Woods sells a tool to hold the spindle. I use a piece of pipe on the T bar that holds socket. I don't want to get into how I know that a piece of pipe on a ratchet is a bad idea. My rm59 is threaded backwards too. It is amazing how hard it is to get those bolts loose.
