I just bought a Wallenstein FX8000 logging winch for working my 30 acres here in NH. It's in pretty darn good shape but there are a few pieces missing...

What's got me scratching my head, and I hope someone can post a picture of, is how the cable attaches to the drum. Wallenstein was kind enough to send me a PDF of the FX8000 and FX12000 operators / parts manual and there is a little part labeled the cable clamp I seem to be missing. What's strange though is the picture of the drum where this clamp attaches looks slightly different than the one in the PDF.

If anyone has one of these units and could snap a few pictures of that or can describe it to me I would be much obliged! I figure if I can't buy the clamp any more I can fabricate something.

P.S. Here is the operators / part list manual if people are interested: View attachment FX12000_FX8000_Manual sn#s B's.pdf

I don't have a FX8000. (-wish I did, but bought the one the dealer had in stock)

...and I don't have pictures...

...but I seem to remember the first time I pulled my cable out to maximum length it came right off the drum...fully..completely.

I seem to remember that on the drum, or side of the reel, there was an apparent hole the end of the cable should go through where the cable clamp could be attached, that would secure the cable to the drum when fully extended. I used a cable clamp I had lying around. Nothing special.

p.s. What is a FX8000? Google comes up zip.

So the FX8000 (from what I can gather) is one of the earlier logging winch models Wallenstein released. Google search comes up pretty sparse.

You’re right about there being a hole in the side of the spool. From the parts diagram I’ve got though it looks like they had a way to clamp it to the spook without the use of a common cable clamp... but that isn’t a bad idea...:scratchchin:

You can see part #90 here is the cable clamp P/N LW1210
