Is there any way to install a Tachometer on a BX23? I would like to be able to see the engine RPMs os as to get the optimum power out of the machine, plus know the right RPM when running implements.

Search this forum for "Tiny Tach" and you should find more than enough info for the install. Installed one on my BX2200 and works great.

Yup...Tiny Tach is the way to go. But a little hint...don't drop fence posts on it. It doesn't work well afterward! (DAMHIKT!!) Ching ching...

I'm confused. Please don't take this as a slam, I really am wondering why there is a need for a tach on a hydrostat. Am I missing something here? I'm new to tractors, so I may just not know what it would be used for.

Hello,
The tach is used to ensure that you are running implements at the manufactures recommended RPM's. Most implements such as a bush Hog have a RPM that is specified by the manufacture, typically 540 RPM's on the rear PTO Shaft.

Hope this helps.

I have one because it's cool /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and it helps me know that I didn't go above 1/2 throttle during the first 50 HRs.

All real tractors have tachs!

Thanks for the reply Greg. Am I to assume people are installing these in some way to check the rpm of the pto? I thought that engine speed and pto speed were not the same. If it is installed for the engine, how do you know the pto rpm. I currently don't have any pto driven attachments, but I will in the future.
Ron, Where does the 1/2 throttle for the first 50 hours come in. My manual states to not run the engine at full speed until broke in. The mechanic and sales guy who I got mine from said to run it at about 80 percent during break in. It must be left up to interpretation what " not run at full speed" means.
