Yes, the L3400 was made for left side mount/dismount. Fact is, most times what needs doing on the ground is over on the right side. The FEL joystick gets in the way when jumping onto or off of the the tractor to the right. Do-able, but a bit snakey.

I'm about ready to whack the joystick. I figure to take a couple of inches off, then if that seems to feel ok take a couple more off, then a couple more. Shortening a total of six inches should considerably improve the ease of getting on or off on the right side.

Anybody tried this? If so, any problems?

Shu-

I have not done this, but I have come close a couple of times. I don't seem to have as much to do on the "right side" as you do, but it does get in the way.

While there is always a hesitation to "modify" a newer machine, I have not regretted anything that I have changed in this fashion. The machines were built to be everything to everybody .... Make it fit YOUR needs!

Good luck

I think with the shorter length you might loose some of the finer (wording?) control of the loader. In other words, it might be more difficult to control the speed of the loader. Just my opinion.

I agree with emmy71. The shorter the lever...... the less leverage you have against the valve. It will take more effort to use the loader, and it will be harder to have the same precision feathering the valve (making small, or slow movements). That being said, its your tractor so cut away if you wish. Your idea of doing it in increments is good. If you can still reach the joystick comfortably, and don't mind the reduced leverage, go for it!

Have thought about the sensitivity issue. Tried resting my hand on the plastic fairing around the hydraulic control and tweeking the lever with the side of the hand. This actually provides finer control than with the hand 'in the air' on the end of the joystick.

At 6'2" with 37" sleeve length, reach to a shorter lever aint gonna be a problem.

When mounting any attachment to the 3 point hitch, the last task is adjusting the top link. That is done on the ground from the right side (where the 3 point hitch lift lever is located).

I pull fenceposts with a chain wrapped around the post and hooked to the top left corner of the FEL bucket. This is best done operating the joystick from the ground, right side of tractor. (HINT: If the fencepost does not come up, the tractor will - tipping toward hooked side; be sure to hook on the left of the bucket so the tractor tips away from you. If you hook to the center of the bucket you will eventually bend the bucket.)

The engine exhaust is at the left front of the tractor. Generally more pleasant to be on the right side than the left when doing anything on the ground.

Here's another suggestion.
How about getting it hot with a torch and bend it up more out of the way when dismounting and still have length.
If that is not OK then cut away.

Let us know what you do. I've been considering some mods on my B-2910 also.

Did the deed. Whacked three inches. For my body morphology, at least, I think the touch and control on the lever is better than before.
