Anybody ever remove a 2 stage fan on a 3 pt. snow blower.

I have an old blower that I need to repair the fan but I cannot figure out how to get it off. I have tried a puller, but I believe after looking at Comer gearboxes that are splined like a PTO that it has a release because there is a hole next to the big bolt that is in the end of the shaft. The inside of that hole looks to be squared, does some kind of a key fit in there ???

I have no info, as I said it was old. I believe there was a sticker once that had Iowa on it.
