Tractor
case 40d
I used my case 40d tractor to bush hog, then changed out the bush hog for a rotary tiller. I pulled forward a little, then tried to change from 1st to 2nd gear. The 4 speed would not move and I was afraid it needed to be oiled. That didn't work and here is my problem. In order for the tractor to move, the range, the direction, and the 4 speed all need to be engaged. I can get any combination of 2 components engaged, but not the 3rd. Example: I can put the range in medium, the direction in forward, but can not move the 4 speed out of neutral. I can put the range in neutral, then the forward and the 4 speed will go in gear. I can put the direction in neutral and the range and 4 speed will engage. My dealer has never heard of this and it happened all of a sudden. Could this be some sort of a safety switch gone bad? The linkage above the transmission all looks good.

Thanks for reading this and I hope someone knows something about this.
