I am thinking of trying to get my hands on a hi point carbine in .40 cal. As that is the pistol caliber I am going to buy and sharing ammo calibers makes sense to me. I understand they aren't going to be accurate past 100 yards, but I don't take many shots past that. I also understand that it will also be somewhat of a plinking/home defense weapon. Just wondering if anyone has experience with them. They are nearly impossible to find these days.

I don't have a Hi Point, but I do have a Ruger PC4(.40Cal). It's a great plinking gun. It's accurate, Built like a tank, and affordable to shoot. I don't believe Ruger makes them anymore. They apparently didn't sell very well. I haven't put but maybe 100rds through mine. I even bought the dies to reload in my Lee reloader, but I kind of got out of shooting for a while. I haven't shot it in probably 5 years or more. Maybe this weekend!

High point carbines are good little guns. I had one in 9mm and had a blast plinking with it. Traded it a couple of years ago but if they ever start making them in .45 I will have another.

They don't have them yet, but they have a .45 pistol so I wouldn't be suprised if they made one in the future.

I have not heard a lot of good things about high points firearms.. I read some post about not taking them apart to clean them because they dont work right when you put them back together..

A dealer told my boss to a buy high point pistol and with their lifetime warranty the company will just replace it WHEN (not iF) it quit working..

I guess that is part of the reason I want one. I know they are cheaper guns, but with the lifetime warranty, again only the lifetime of the company, I figure I can have a cheap rifle for plinking that shares ammo with my handgun. Thanks for the opinions so far.

Thanks Bob,

I will be trying to get my hands on one. By the way, that picture looks altogether too evil, I like it.

I don't know if you've seen these: Kel Tec, I've got one in 9mm and they have a .40, as well. Neat little rifle and fairly inexpensive.
A guy that works at a local indoor range commented, when they first put one in their rentals, he thought it was cheap and would be needing constant repair. He was wrong and was very surprised by how reliable it was.

Have the .40 love it. Its sturdy. Fun little shooter. It was between that and a saiga and once i held the hi-point i bought it on the spot. plus it goes with my carry caliber.
