Anybody remember the Pike County Massacre?

April 2016, rural Pike County Ohio near the village of Peebles, 8 people killed at four different locations. At the time it was thought to be drug related and that some foreign cartel did it due to the elaborate coordination. It made all kinds of news back then with wild speculations. Then it dropped off the media radar.

I had forgotten about it until I caught a news blurb about a pending case. Turns out the whole thing was over a custody dispute of a 3 year old child. The accused family (ranging in age from 26 to 76) is said to have spent two years planning it all including tampering with cameras at the properties.

Also, two of the investigators involved have been arrested for corruption in unrelated matters.

It is still a very hot topic here considering that I live in Southern Ohio. To make things even more interesting, the Sheriff has been suspended from duty for corruption, gambling, and a slew of other fabricated things. One of the grandmothers that is charged with tampering with evidence had her trial scheduled to start this past Monday. It was agreed to be stayed for a month or so by both the prosecution and defense. Not a clear answer as to why.

I read the charges were dropped against the older one, but not why.

They actually just executed a 5 day search warrant on her property last week. So there is still something going on there. Those charges and more will be refiled.
