You guys make me feel inadequate with all of the land getting busted up.:D I am only doing a small 1/4 acre this year but got it in yesterday.......well except for the watermelon and my wife's cantelope plot. I hate cantelope and told her the seeds would burn my hands so she can do them.:p

No, I ended up putting her 2 rows of cantelope while I did my 3 of watermelons. She showed up and at least brought me a cold glass of water.:D

I'm still using middle buster then roto tiller on my little corn patch.
Just planted first few rows today. Plan to plant again in 2 weeks. Maybe one more planting 2 more weeks.
Here's what came up in "the corn patch" last year.

First time planting haygrazer! wish me luck.

Good luck and post your results, please. I'm preparing seed bed for Tifton 9 Bahia grass, about 12 acres. New, improved bahia grass and the thing about it that has my attention is low fertility requirements.

Should plant within the next two weeks...will post pictures as it comes along.

Here are the results, spent 3 hours with box blade, tearing it up and leveling. BB's are magic! Just driving around cuts the high spots and deposits the dirt in the low spots! Anyway, after that I spent about an hour disking it. Then an hour picking up 2,367 roots and rocks! (It was a pine thicket last year). I'm ready to sow some clover after my soil sample gets back from AG dept. (It was winter rye.) I'm going to be pretty popular with the critters when it comes up! Pics are from my cell phone, can't take my good digital in the field. My "helper" in "first pass" had a hard time NOT fetching the roots I was throwing OUT of the field!

Coyote,
I am trying to boycott this thread, unsuccessfully it seems, because we still have snow on the ground here. It is melting, but we are supposed to get another couple inches in a few days.

So bah humbug. :)

Coyote,
I have always heard that plowing snow under helps the soil have more moisture. I really don't know, as I never see enough snow to even play in, much less plow under.
hugs, Brandi

Hey, during our drought this year, I'd have plowed snow!
